If a person goes without health insurance for 63 consecutive days anything the person was diagnosed with before the 63 days is considered to be a preexisting condition. If a person loses his health coverage and the employer has more than 20 full time employees the federal government offers a program called COBRA, so that the person can keep his health coverage for 18 months as long as he pays the premiums.
